About Ethiopia

Ethiopian Culture

Ethnologically the very early inhabitants of Ethiopian were of Hemitic (coushitic) Stock related to the North African Berbers and the ancient Egyptians. Then followed Semitic immigrants from south Arabia. These cultured people brought with them the language witch survives as Ghe-ez used now only in church liturgy. They also founded Axum.
There are more than 80 languages spoken in Ethiopia.  Ethiopia’s official language is Amharic. This sounds more like Hebrew than anything else, but is also closely related to the many other Ethiopian language of which the most widely used are oromigna and Tigrinya.
Amharic writing looks like a squarer version of Arabic script and some letters such as ‘m' are surprisingly similar to the Latin alphabet. The character are a syllabary of 33 constants each having seven shapes according to the following vowel sound. Once these have been grasps it is not difficult to read because the spelling is entirely phonetics.

Present –day Ethiopians are handsome and are renowned for their courtesy and friendless of manner men bow on introduction in the old fashioned way and no matter who he or she is the visitor will quickly be invited to share an Ethiopian meal or if in Addis Ababa perhaps to drive round vesting the small bars called Tej(honey wine) houses which are usually owned by women and crowded with barmaids in national costume
The best known Ethiopian cuisine consists of various vegetable or meat side dishes and entrees, usually a wot, or thick stew, served with Injera, a large sourdough flatbread. One does not eat with utensils, but instead uses Injera to scoop up the entrees and side dishes. Traditional Ethiopian cuisine employs no pork or shellfish of any kind, as it is forbidden in the Islamic, Jewish, and Ethiopian Orthodox Christian faiths. It is also very common to eat from the same big dish in the center of the table with a group of people

The Music of Ethiopia is extremely diverse, with each of the country's 80 ethnic groups being associated with unique sounds.. Ethiopian music uses a unique modal system that is pentatonic, with characteristically long intervals between some notes.Influences include ancient Christian elements and Muslim and folk music from elsewhere in the Horn of Africa, especially Sudan and Somalia.
